    Aida - Opera Lucie Stern Community Theatre and Center Aida - Opera Presented by West Bay Opera at Lucie Stern Community Theatre and Center May 25-June 3, 2012 Composed at the request of the Ottoman ruler of Egypt for the opening of the Suez Canal in 1871, Aida is among the most performed operas ever. It is really an intimate drama set against the larger-than-life backdrop of a bloody war between Egypt and Ethiopia. Amneris, the Pharaoh's daughter, is infatuated with Radames, the general who leads the Egyptian army against Ethiopia. She is infuriated to find out that Radames and Aida, her slave, are secretly in love. Radames returns...

    Wednesdays at Lucie Stern - Social Ballroom Dancing Lucie Stern Community Theatre and Center Wednesdays at Lucie Stern - Social Ballroom Dancing Presented by Ballroom Dancing at the Cubberley Pavilion at Lucie Stern Community Theatre and Center January 19, 2011 - Ongoing Beginning and intermediate ballroom dancing lessons are followed by social dancing at this Wednesday night event. Singles and couples are welcome, and no partner is necessary. Attire is dressy-casual, and you'll be more comfortable dancing in leather or suede-soled shoes, as opposed to rubber-soled shoes which may stick to the dance floor. Though the organization name mentions Cubberly Pavilion, this event takes place in the Lucie Stern Ballroom of the Lucie Stern Community Center.
