    10/14/11- 03/11/12	This Kind of Bird Flies Backward - Paintings by Joan Brown San Jose Museum of Art This Kind of Bird Flies Backward - Paintings by Joan Brown Presented by San Jose Museum of Art at San Jose Museum of Art October 14, 2011-March 11, 2012 The San Jose Museum of Art will explore the work of the pivotal Bay Area artist Joan Brown (1938-1990). The exhibition, the first major survey of Brown’s art in a decade, is the first to examine and stake a claim for her work in the context of the women’s movement. The exhibition includes approximately forty paintings (plus a select group of drawings and mixed-media works) on loan from public and private collections as well as from the artist’s estate, including some never...

The artist Paul Klee once said: "A line is a dot that went for a walk." Learn about line and the other basic elements of art - color and value, shape and form, texture, space - as you explore works by Fletcher Benton, Ellen Carey, Sonia Gechtoff, David Gilhooly, Il Lee, and Wayne Thiebaud, and enjoy related art activities.
    08/27/11- 02/26/12	Beta Space by Anna Sew Hoy - Exhibition San Jose Museum of Art Beta Space by Anna Sew Hoy - Exhibition Presented by San Jose Museum of Art at San Jose Museum of Art August 27, 2011-February 26, 2012 Anna Sew Hoy features found objects from cast-off materials and detritus from our local courporate culture in the newest installment of San Jose Museum of Art's Beta Space. Experience the experimental space as Hoy's sculptures encourages viewers to note the rapid turnover and consequent discarding of gadgets in today's fast-paced electronics market. This exhibition is sponsored by the James Irvine Foundation and Theres and Dennis Rohan.

Several of his works are now on view in Mexicanisimo through Artists’ Eyes (exhibit opens on March 30, 2012). He will offer insight on the diverse aspects of culture and traditions that he explores in his paintings and prints. Enrique Chagoya, Labrynth of Liberty, 2004, Acrylic and water-based oil on amate, 13 x 118 ½ x 4 inches.
