This engaging and colorful, multi-media performance will explore the music and life of famous Kentucky composer and balladeer, John Jacob Niles with a mixture of live performance, photographs and video highlighting each era of the composer's life from his early popular songs through the rarely performed Niles/Merton Songs.

In the summer of 1967, the renowned American balladeer, composer and collector of folk music John Jacob Niles met the great thinker and Trappist monk Thomas Merton.

Viva Tango! - Concert

Astor Piazzolla spent his life crafting a completely new style of music, combining elements of classical, jazz and the tango music of his native Argentina, which came to be known as Tango Nuevo. Featuring the tango group Quinteto Quilombo with bandoneonista Seth Asarnow, this program will explore the intersections of Astor Piazzolla's works with classical music, and will feature a set of his tangos performed in their original instrumentation.

Viva Carnival! - The Mission Masquerade Ball

The Mission Masquerade Ball will showcase the sights, sounds and shimmer of South America's Carnival celebrations! Featuring dinner, dancing, masks, and music by Receita de Samba, it is going to be a night to remember!

Proceeds from the Ball will help support the main stage concerts and educational outreach programs of Music at the Mission. Support Fremont's only Classical Chamber Music Series and party, Brazilian-style! Advance reservations are required.

With a thrilling and provocative mix of chamber works, this concert explores the evolution of music that features the string family's most enigmatic, under-appreciated and largest member, the Double Bass; from the Romantic, to the lyrical, to the manic. This program features music from leading European romantics to the music of America today, including selections from Rossini, Bottesini, Schubert, and Digital by UC Berkeley's Franck Bedrossian.
