	Brian Ho CD Release Party Presented by San Jose Jazz at The Lobby Lounge at The Fairmont San Jose February 8, 2012 Brian Ho has grown from a hometown pianist to a Hammond Organ virtuoso. He began his love affair for the instrument while playing at an African-American Baptist Church in his teens. This child prodigy took piano lessons at Stanford and San Jose State, and began teaching at the age of 16. 	Le Jazz Hot Presented by San Jose Jazz at The Lobby Lounge at The Fairmont San Jose January 25, 2012 Le Jazz Hot (the Quartet/Trio of the Hot Club of San Francisco) is an ensemble of accomplished and versatile musicians celebrating the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli’s pioneering Hot Club de France. The ensemble borrows the all-string instrumentation of violin, bass and guitars from the original Hot Club, but breathes new life into the music with innovative arrangements of classic tunes and original compositions from the group’s superb lead guitarist Paul Mehling.   Everyone likes the classics, but what I especially enjoyed were the arrangements of the greats that Susan and her group presented with warmth and intelligence. Sometimes though, a classic is so over-used that it makes you cringe when you hear it. That was my immediate response when the group started in on "Over the Rainbow." But, surprise! The feeling didn't last long. It quickly vanished because the original phrasing and accent that the group gave the piece made it fresh and smart. As the evening progressed and the group warmed up, the sound got even better. When Susan pushed her voice to its edgier side, she sang her best. What a delight! Bass and keyboards were also in the groove. Things to change? When a restaurant signs a group, the least they could do would be to put the group out there. Why was Susan hidden away in a small back corner? The audience could have been much bigger if the group had been staged so more people could enjoy the spectacle of the music Collapse
