M Is For Mystery Bookstore, founded in 1996, is the Bay Area's largest and most complete mystery specialty bookstore. It has 1,700 square feet of sales floor, while an additional 500 square feet at the rear are occupied by staff work stations and its shipping/receiving department. This store offers a large selection of new mystery, crime and detective fiction. It also offers a children's and young adults section, bestsellers, used books, first editions and other collectibles. In addition, there are various genre-related gift items and books-on-tape.

M Is For Mystery offers store credit for used paperbacks and buys estates and collections. The store features an active schedule of author readings and signings, averaging over 150 such events per year.
