Three brothers heard of her search. Two of the brothers were very clever, but the third was somewhat simple. He was called, Silly Simon. The two clever brothers rode off to the palace on their fine horses to try their luck. But Silly Simon had no horse, so he set off riding a Billy goat. 	Elegance in the Afternoon - Fashion Show featuring Designs of Tory Burch Presented by Ballet San Jose at Montalvo Arts Center February 11, 2011 This special event benefits the San Jose School and Scholarship Fund. Presented by Ballet San Jose School Committe and Gentry Magazine in collaboration with Tory Burch, it is being held in the Historic Villa at Montalvo Arts Center.   So I wasn't expecting this show to be of Ballet San Jose company caliber since it is a student performance, but I was very impressed by the professionalism, artistry and technique in these ballets. Invitation to the Dance was the first, a delightfully elegant and beyond-sweet classical ballet. All students danced well, especially the lead boy, whom I'm sure will have no trouble landing a company position when he graduates. The statuesque soloist paired with the almost-too-perfect-to-be-true littlest ballerina in the end, respectively wise and talented beyond their years, summed up the elegance and dream of this ballet. Kudos to Choreographer Dalia Rawson. The second ballet, Silly Simon, at times had more mime than dance, but was clever and VERY entertaining. Gorgeous costumes, and very thoughtful timing. The training in Lise Lacour's Ballet School is clearly taken seriously. These kids are going places! Nice bonus to have professional guest artists too. Collapse

  SIMON SAYS, "DANCE!" CHILDREN'S [BALLET] COULD MAKE A BALLET FAN OUT OF YOU. Close your eyes. Now think of ballet. Did I hear a yawn? Admit it. At the word 'ballet' you probably don't imagine laughing at some lout riding a billy goat. Perhaps you don't imagine laughing at all-or bringing your kids. Ballet San Jose wants to change that with [Silly Simon.] The big draw for this show is not JUST the story and music, but the cast. "Simon" will be performed by Professional and Open level students of Ballet San Jose SCHOOL. Dancers in the performance really get a chance to show what they can do. In turn, kids in the audience really respond to the youngsters on stage. They clap and they laugh and imagine themselves as the characters. They definitely connect with their peers. Says [BSJ School Director and choreographer of the show,] Lise la Cour, "They'll see the Princess or Silly Simon and think,'I want to do that!' Children are really our hope of keeping culture alive in the future." Collapse
