This is a program for lovers of the last century's most profound music! Husa's terrifying masterwork, Music for Prague 1968--his response to the Soviet Union's occupation of Czechoslovakia--was written for concert band, then transcribed for orchestra. It will be performed in the Bay Area for the first time at this concert. Concertino for Trumpet, Jolivet's tour de force for trumpet and chamber orchestra, is like atonal jazz. The Ring Without Words is conductor Lorin Maazel’s 70-minute compilation of music from all four of Wagner’s Ring of the Nibelung operas, which include the famous “Ride of the Valkyries.” This will be a West Coast premiere, performed with supertitles. Also, long-time Redwood Symphony regular Dan Glover returns to perform Rachmaninoff’s most popular work.

Redwood Symphony presents Don Giovanni a joint concert with Peninsula Cantare at Canada College. The program for their performance includes the music from Mozart's Don Giovanni. This masterful blending of comedy and tragedy will be performed by a top-notch cast and hand-picked Redwood Symphony players, conducted by Eric Kujawksy and directed by renowned opera scholar and director David Ostwald.
