    Maiko is a multicultural women's drum and poetry ensemble, which was founded in 1983 and was incorporated under the umbrella of the San Jose Multicultural Artists Guild in 1987. Its powerful performances uniquely blend African, Latin and Brazilian drums, percussion instruments, and poetry with dramatic presention, while promoting cultural expression through performances.

    Maiko is a multicultural women's drum and poetry ensemble, which was founded in 1983 and was incorporated under the umbrella of the San Jose Multicultural Artists Guild in 1987. Its powerful performances uniquely blend African, Latin and Brazilian drums, percussion instruments, and poetry with dramatic presention, while promoting cultural expression through performances.

    Maiko delivers powerful messages that educate, enlighten, encourage and empower its audiences through entertainment and creativity, and its performances are of high quality and energy. It is available for perfomances and also for drumming and percussion workshops, poerty workshops and residency programs for young children, teens and adults.

    It also conducts Drum Circles to which it brings all the instruments, and participants sit in a large circle, learn drum rhythms, and then have a jam session using percussion instruments. These classes are exciting and fun for males and females of all ages. Sometimes, poetry and dance spontaneously are created during these Drum Circles.
