The Bay Area English Regency Society celebrates the spirit of the early nineteenth century. The English Regency, familiar from the works not only of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer but also C. S. Forester, Patrick O'Brian, and Tim Powers, was a spirited time bubbling over with creative energy in the arts and sciences, and yet a time when wit and grace were highly valued.

The scandalous, secret soiree from Jane Austen's time! This evening offers flirtatious country dances taught and called on the spot, so that beginners may join immediately; scandalous waltzes; and the Congress of Vienna (a delightful modern creation, written by Regency dancing master John Hertz in the late 1970s). Waltzes and hall length dances with frequent partner changes. The ladies must meet everyone! Featuring caller Alan Winston with The Divertimento Dance Orchestra.

Skirts worn by many women, but pants are definitely acceptable. Live music by William Allen, Jan Battles, Paul Kostka, James Langdell, and Nettie Wijsman. Musicians who care to sit in get in free!
