  You may not know that Steven Dietz is one of the most produced playwrights in the U.S., only slightly behind Shakespeare and Tennessee Williams. That might be a good enough reason to go see the current Dragon Theatre production of his play "Private Eyes" — to see what all the fuss is about.

  Stones in His Pockets is a humor-filled play with heart. Often at the drop (or toss) of a hat, Tom Gough and Robert Campbell each shine as they become the townspeople and a members of a film production crew in Ireland. Under Meredith Hagedorn's direction, the minimalist set and intimate theatre allow for the strong characterizations of the actors to create the entire setting and world for you. You'll fall in love with and root for notable characters 'Charlie,' and 'Caroline Giovanni' (a high-priced hollywood actress) --both Gough creations--, as well as Campbell's 'Jake,' and elderly movie extra, 'Mickey.' Admist the scene-stealing and can't-help-but-giggle moments, the cast pulls off touching and serious moments that are sure leave you at the edge of your seat. Looks like another fantastic start to a Dragan Productions season! Collapse

  Tennessee Williams did not need to wait for Hurricane Katrina in 2005 to bring a major storm to the poor people of New Orleans - he already had the cyclonic character of Blanche DuBois. Dragon Theatre has the extraordinary talent of Meredith Hagedorn who brilliantly spins the power of this character in the eye of the low pressure system that Blanche creates to cope with the lifestyle disaster that is engulfing her. She gives a great performance. Stella Kowalski is caught in the storm surge of her sister's intrusion into her already volatile marriage. Katie Anderson's performance is as genuine as Southern Comfort. Forget Elaine's comic Seinfeld drunk scene and leave Hollywood's Brando-Leigh memory for rental. Dragon uses creative, minimal sets with imaginative staging and direction that will open your psyche to this inundation of raw interpersonal struggle. A refreshing change from a modern tv family drama or sitcom. A tiny theatre with a big show. Collapse
