Belinda Chlouber's late mother's and grandfather's poetry inspired her recent mixed media work and she feels she's "collaborating with them in spirit" Local poets Mary-Marcia Casoly and Jack Foley collaborated with watercolor artist, Teresa Silvestri, for her paintings, as well as gathering inspiration from American poet, Mary Oliver

Ginger Slonaker's inspiration for a diptych comes from the poem "Mr Gold" written by her 14-yr old daughter, Alara Slonaker Poets Charlotte Muse and Len Anderson are friends of ceramic artist, Nina Koepcke, and inspired her works about birds

Clay artist, Pixie Couch, has been working with potter-poets, Marian Slattery and Philip Hubbard, and transferred poems onto clay surfaces

Photographer Tony Williams has written his own poem to accompany his image "Escaping Art", taken at the deYoung Museum in San Francisco The process of creativity is what inspired Diana Herring in her original prints, while Erna Metzger is exhibiting handmade paper pieces

Charles Ferguson is the 2011 Academy Award Winning Documentary Filmmaker of Inside Job and Author of Predator Nation

Could the global economic meltdown of the last few years have been prevented? Ferguson believes the crisis was no accident After Inside Job won the 2011 Academy Award for Best Documentary Film, Ferguson started his acceptance speech by charging that there was a lack of accountability of the finance industry and Wall Street, pointing out that three years after the horrific crisis started not a single financial executive had gone to jail Predator Nation continues to examine the important issues raised in Inside Job, arguing that an out-of-control finance industry took advantage of a deregulated atmosphere and purposely got rich at the expense of others Through his extensive interviews with financial insiders and government officials, Ferguson exposes the "corrupted networks" that caused the economic collapse and offers a plan of action to help our country get back on track

Exit Laughing is more than a collection of twenty-four personal stories, written by some of the country's finest authors, on the subject of death and humor It's a reminder that people approach death in very different ways Whether a person faces his or her own death or the death of a loved one with fear, sorrow, joy, or confusion, and whether or not a person believes in an afterlife, no one can deny that death happens Exit Laughing reminds everyone that in death there is a place for humor

Ellen Sussman writes of flying home her mother's body and watching her mother's burial wardrobe spill out on the baggage carousel Kathi Kamen Goldmark regales the reader with memories of playing the kazoo at Jessica Mitford's funeral Broadway and television actor Richard McKenzie shares the riotous story of a funeral procession led by a lost hearse Bonnie Garvin writes about her parents' double suicide attempt (and yes, it's funny!) Joshua Braff recalls a death in an upstairs bedroom during his childhood, Roadrunner cartoons included LA Law star and author Michael Tucker describes his last visit with his dying friend, Cleavon Little, and how they said goodbye

These stories, along with eighteen other memorable essays, constitute a book whose purpose is to remind readers that when dealing with illness, dying, and death, there is an important place for laugh-out-loud humor

Join the editors and contributors of The Thinking Person's Guide to Autism as they discuss their book Autism misinformation clouds and is perpetuated by the Internet They want to make accurate information about autism causation and therapies visible, accessible, and centralized They also want to help new autism community members develop a positive yet realistic attitude and to appreciate the strengths while supporting the struggles of loved ones with autism

The writers have defined opinions and may not always agree with each other That is both acceptable and realistic because autism means something different for every person with an autism diagnosis Their purpose it not to tell you what to do They want to give you tools and information so you can make informed decisions for yourself, your child, or your family

Overseas is a passionate, sweeping novel of a love that transcends time When twenty-something Wall Street analyst Kate Wilson attracts the notice of the legendary Julian Laurence at a business meeting, no one's more surprised than she is Julian's relentless energy and his extraordinary intellect electrify her, but she's baffled by his sudden interest Why would this handsome British billionaire--Manhattan's most eligible bachelor--pursue a pretty, but bookish, young banker who hasn't had a boyfriend since college?

The answer is beyond imagining--at least at first Kate and Julian's story may have begun, not in the moneyed world of twenty-first-century Manhattan, but in France during World War I when a mysterious American woman emerged from the shadows of the Western Front to save the life of Captain Julian Laurence Ashford, a celebrated war poet and infantry officer

Physics professor Chad Orzel and his inquisitive canine companion, Emmy, tackle the concepts of general relativity in this irresistible introduction to Einstein's physics Through armchair--and sometimes passenger-seat--conversations with Emmy about the relative speeds of dog and cat motion or the logistics of squirrel-chasing, Orzel translates complex Einsteinian ideas--the slowing of time for a moving observer, the shrinking of moving objects, the effects of gravity on light and time, black holes, the Big Bang, and of course, E=mc2--into examples simple enough for a dog to understand

A lively romp through one of the great theories of modern physics, How to Teach Relativity to Your Dog will teach you everything you ever wanted to know about space, time, and anything else you might have slept through in high school physics class

Chad Orzel received his BA in physics from Williams College, his PhD in chemical physics from the University of Maryland, and his postdoctorate from Yale University He maintains a regular blog, Uncertain Principles

Half the world is malnourished, the other half obese Why is there such a large discrepancy between the haves and the have-nots for what we all need: food? Patel conducts a global investigation to make sense of the world food crisis and finds that "the food system is filled with choices made by a handful of powerful people, in smoke-filled rooms, over the objections of the majority" Hear his story of nefarious false choices and of international resistance movements that take you from seed to store to plate

When your Internet cable leaves your living room, where does it go? Almost everything about our day-to-day lives--and the broader scheme of human culture--can be found on the Internet, but what is it physically? Where is it really? In Tubes, journalist Andrew Blum goes inside the Internet's physical infrastructure and flips on the lights, revealing an utterly fresh look at the online world we think we know It is a shockingly tactile realm of unmarked compounds, populated by a special caste of engineer who pieces together networks by hand; where glass fibers pulse with light and creaky telegraph buildings, tortuously rewired, become communication hubs once again

Like Tracy Kidder's classic The Soul of a New Machine or Tom Vanderbilt's recent bestseller Traffic, Tubes combines on-the-ground reporting and lucid explanation into an engaging, mind-bending narrative to help the readers understand the physical world that underlies their digital lives

One of them is a bestselling Pulitzer Prize-winning humorist The other is a winner of the Thurber Prize for American Humor Together, they formed a team of pure comic genius and wrote Lunatics Join them for an onstage conversation moderated by Sam Barry, Dave's brother and band-mate, and hear about their collaboration and the laughs along the way

In Lunatics, Philip Horkman is a happy man He's the owner of a pet store called The Wine Shop and on Sundays a referee for kids' soccer Jeffrey Peckerman is the sole sane person in a world filled with jerks and morons, and he's having a really bad day The two are about to collide in a swiftly escalating series of events that will send them running for their lives, pursued by the police, soldiers, terrorists, subversives, bears, and a man dressed as Chuck E Cheese Where that all takes them you can't begin to guess, but the literary journey there is a masterpiece of inspiration and mayhem

Dave Barry's recent bestselling books include his Peter Pan prequels, written with Ridley Pearson; Dave Barry's History of the Millennium (So Far); and I'll Mature When I'm Dead For twenty years, Dave has contributed to the "hard listening" music genre as lead guitarist for the all-author rock band, the Rock Bottom Remainders He lives in Coral Gables, Florida

Alan Zweibel is one of the original Saturday Night Live writers He has won the Thurber Prize for his novel The Other Shulman, and multiple Emmy, Writers Guild of America, and TV Critics awards for his work in television, including It's Garry Shandling's Show, Monk, PBS's Great Performances, and Curb Your Enthusiasm He lives in Short Hills, New Jersey

Moderator Sam Barry is the author of How to Play the Harmonica: and Other Life Lessons, co-author of Write That Book Already: the Tough Love You Need to Get Published Now, and contributing editor to the literary magazine Zyzzyva Sam plays in the band Los Train Wreck and tours with the Rock Bottom Remainders He lives in San Francisco

A Thousand Clowns is a coming-of-middle-age story revolving around eccentric bachelor Murray Burns, an unemployed children's television writer who has found himself raising his sister's son after she went out for a pack of cigarettes and never returned When social workers from the Bureau of Child Welfare come to investigate whether his nephew is receiving a proper upbringing, finding an actual paying job becomes high priority, so Murray can keep the precocious 12-year-old A return to his former work involves writing for "Chuckles the Chipmunk," an inane character if ever there was one! Full of quotable dialogue and quirky charm, A Thousand Clowns speaks to us of commitment and the power of love

Police helicopters descend upon the streets of Los Angeles Gas-guzzling SUVs overtake the streets of San Francisco Fast-food emblems and corporate logos dominate the American landscape Is it the 24-hour news channel, or a 21st-century take on a 14th-century classic? In 2003, artist Sandow Birk (with writer Marcus Sanders) relocated Dante Alighieri's epic poem The Divine Comedy into contemporary urban America In his illustrations for the three books (Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso), Birk depicted Dante as a sneaker- and hoodie-clad slacker Accompanied by the ancient Roman poet Virgil, Dante journeys through the circles of Hell to Purgatory and Paradise, presented as versions of modern American cities

This exhibition features a selection from the museum's permanent collection of Birk's series of lithographs Each meticulously drawn image incorporates a descriptive caption written in contemporary American vernacular Birk transformed a centuries-old classic into an imaginary narrative with political relevance for today's audiences
