Author, policy analyst and activist Antonia Juhasz will be the special guest at an event hosted by Peace Action of San Mateo County and San Mateo County Democracy for America. Juhasz's topic is also the title of her most recent book, The Tyranny of Oil: the World's Most Powerful Industry - And What We Must Do To Stop It. Copies of the book, recently re-released as a paperback and updated with a new preface, will be on sale, along with her previous book, The Bu$h Agenda: Invading the World, One Economy at a Time.

Antonia Juhasz has been with the San Francisco-based group Global Exchange since last July, as the Director of its new Chevron Program focusing on the many environmental, human rights, and other crimes of the ubiquitous San Ramon-based corporation - also now the world's fifth-largest company. She is the lead author and editor of The True Cost of Chevron: An Alternative Annual Report, which Global Exchange and other organizations released at Chevron's annual meeting last May. Among other topics, she will discuss upcoming protest actions planned at Chevron's world headquarters in San Ramon this coming May.

In addition to her work at Global Exchange, Juhasz is on the National Advisory Board of Iraq Veterans Against the War and is well-known for her work uncovering the oil industry's pursuit of the Iraq Oil Law. She is also a Fellow at Oil Change International and a Visiting Scholar at the Institute for Policy Studies. Juhasz has also worked as a legislative assistant to two members of Congress. Global Exchange's web site describes Juhasz as "a passionate writer and speaker who conveys complex information in a manner that is both accessible and motivational to others."

Admission is $5-10 sliding scale, with no one turned away for lack of funds. Dessert, coffee and tea will be available. Carpenter's Hall is wheelchair accessible.
