  The story is a great opportunity to tell the story of one of the golden era of film's greatest pairings, Ginger Rogers with Fred Astaire. Most of what people know of Ginger Rogers is the phenomenal dancing she does as a follow to Fred Astaire's lead. While there is some ballroom dancing (mostly seen in the trailer), it leaves the audience wanting to see more. There are some group tap dance sequences but I think they could have added a few more dance numbers with Fred. The actress who plays Ginger did a fine job of acting, singing, and dancing. She was very charming in her role and captured the bubbly and sweet character of Ginger Rogers. The actress who played Ginger's mom also gave a great performance and provided the counterbalance/tension in the story of an overwhelming but caring mother. The rest of the characters had to play multiple roles and they performed their hearts out (especially the 3rd female in the ensemble cast). One of the male characters played Fred. But once I saw him in an earlier different role it was a little hard to see him as Fred. As Fred, I felt that he focused more on his accent than on his dancing (which was not bad). As a dance teacher myself, I look at posture, timing and rhythm of steps, connection, and musicality. Some of it was there but I wasn't sold on the portrayal of Fred. But I may be judging harshly because of my dance background. Other than that, the orchestra, sets, costumes, and lighting were great! It was an entertaining show that gave Ginger Rogers the "lead" this time! Collapse

  Plenty of talent and stage spectacle grace the rep stage in this musical story of Ginger Rogers, but for me there were a bit to many forced concepts, conflicting styles and repetition. Some cuts and rewrites would serve the fantastic talent, design, and concept of this show for sure, but the core is there and worth seeing for sure. Lots of humor, glamour, and sentimentality in this, and the dancing (mostly tap) is certainly well done. Special shout out to the lighting design, it was used very effectively! Got to love a polished live orchestra too! Collapse
