  The Astonished Heart is not a comedy. It was described at its first production as "a tragedy in six scenes". It's about a man who commits suicide after cheating on his wife. The fact that a previous reviewer admited he would take out his phone during a show, disrupting other patrons who may actually understand the material may speak for itself. All three shows were student run productions and it was a show to be proud of, which is why I can not let the 1 star review stand alone without a rebuttal. Collapse

  The students were professional in their approach and interpretation, with a few minor improvements to be had. "We Were Dancing" was up first, the music and dancing added a refreshing change of pace to a piece that inherently kept its actors sitting around for much of the performance. While the focal emotions created long, uncomfortable silences, I felt the pace dragged a bit here and there, the players could have picked up without losing the feel. "Ways and Means" was the standout piece of the show, the transition from the previous piece being executed with a notably seamless set change and entertaining song. The characters for this piece were very developed with great pacing /chemistry. "The Astonished Heart" was a solid dramatic piece that should have been the second in the show, the two songs that followed didn't manage to pick up my spirits despite being done well. I enjoyed the inclusion of 'hosts' to glue the whole thing together. Overall: 4.5 stars,5 in reflection of last review Collapse
