STAGE DANCE

No partner is necessary for this fun event. Casual, comfortable attire is fine. All ages are welcome; those under 18 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is optional instruction offered before the dance. Please see Times and Tickets for details.

A typical Friday Night Waltz Dance like this one draws 100-200 participants, and includes between forty and fifty dances in an evening. About half the dances are waltzes, including several kinds of waltzes: cross-step waltz, ballroom, rotary, viennese, redowa, and hesitation. Often, there are about six polkas and about four tangos. Many of these polkas are fast and often played to silly music, such as Constantinople and Gilligan's Island. The rest of the dances are the mixers, the choreographed waltzes, one-steps, swing, tango, cha-cha, mazurka, schottische, an occasional hambo, blues, Zweifacher or salsa.

The event features four sets, with a one to two minute break between sets, so that people can take a breather. The easier and slower dances are in the first two sets, with faster and harder dances in the third and fourth set. There is usually a mixer in the first and third set, and a choreographed waltz in the the second and fourth sets. These are not hard rules, just typical. Free water and light refreshments are offered.

This event takes place in the Church's Fellowship Hall, located on the second floor. The entrance is on the right of the courtyard, facing away from the street.
