Bask in masterworks that shape our great a cappella tradition: Debussy + Hindemith Chansons, Poulenc Motets, Britten Flower Songs, Vaughan Williams Shakespeare Songs, and works by Carter, Ives, Puerling, and others. Toast to five world premieres predicted to become classics: tales of pirates, old cowboys, twinkle-toes, and migrants. Why juxtapose classics of the repertoire with new works? Artistic Director Magen Solomon explains that she avidly cultivates engagements with living composers to help bridge the gulf between composer, performer, and audience. "I feel that music needs to be live music," Solomon comments. "It's so easy to listen to flawless recordings, but having live singers in front of live audiences singing compelling music by living composers has always been a critical part of our group." R. Dane Danubian (artssf.com) adds, "...amongst the foremost unaccompanied singing groups... on this or any other coast."

My most favorites on this program are the Vaughan Wms Shakespeare Songs, the Poulenc Motets, but then there is the Carter, and those 5 premieres--love the e.e. cummings poetry, especially in spring... Expand
