    Steeped in Yankee tradition and progressive social values, larger‐than‐life sisters Sarah Winchester and Isabelle Merriman were ahead of their time. Infamous yet misunderstood, Sarah was a savvy businesswoman and amateur architect who found solace in building. Isabelle was passionate and outspoken, fighting for the rights of the abused and oppressed. Through thick and thin, the sisters maintained a close bond while enduring public scrutiny and outrageous gossip over their nontraditional ways.

    Informed by new scholarship from professor and historian Mary Jo Ignoffo, the exhibit reveals the real stories of Sarah and Isabelle to be more interesting than the myths. Programs will include a tour of the Winchester Mystery House for Museum members and presentations tied to Isabelle’s passion for social justice.
