Sanchez Art Center presents its annual Bay Area Annual Juried Exhibition. This exhibition includes 43 artworks selected from 418 works entered by 141 California artists, and will fill the Main and West Galleries. Five of the 30 exhibiting artists will be selected to receive a $100 Juror’s Award.  The distinguished juror for the 2009 Bay Area Annual is JoAnne Northrup, who was appointed as the San Jose Museum of Art’s Katie and Drew Gibson Chief Curator in November 2008 after serving as Senior Curator from 2001 to 2008. From 1995 to 2001 she was Curator, Exhibits and Collections, at the de Saisset Museum, Santa Clara University, and from 1992 to 1995 she held a curatorial position at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California. Northrup has curated numerous exhibitions that fuse popular culture and contemporary art, including Un/Familiar Territory; Domestic Odyssey; Girl Power! Laurie Long; Heavenly Bodies; and the nationally touring exhibitions Jennifer Steinkamp and Robots: Evolution of a Cultural Icon (2008), and has produced numerous catalogues and books at San Jose Museum of Art.
