Starr Davis will show clayprints, which utilize both her painting and clay background. Colors scintilate through layers of texture. It’s like walking in pitch black, or how with your eyes closed you see myriads of little spots of color. Clay printing is painting on a slab of clay with colored slips. Instead of firing the slab in a kiln, the image is pressed onto polyester paper. This creates a naturally occurring static electric charge so that the slip adheres to the paper and the print is permanent and practically indestructable. Starr’s constant motif is the mussel (representing herself) plus new explorations such as clouds seen from above the earth. The result is a complicated "narrative" in a multi-layered picture, witnessing a charge/love of life.

Isabel Brown’s art is a reflection of her abstract expressionistic style. All her paintings are painted with her hands. She stopped using brushes many years ago. She wants the viewer to touch the painting with their eyes. Isabel is a native of Peru who came to the U.S. to attend college and now resides in Los Altos. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from San Jose State University. Her motifs include trees of her childhood in Peru and the oval, symbolizing the self and soul.

A reception for the artists is taking place on Friday, October 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The public is invited.
