What are saints? People who lived "a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away?" Idealized human beings frozen in stained glass or confined to the face of laminated holy cards? Or are they people, rooted in the earth and reaching for heaven, who have allowed themselves to be shattered, to be exploded by love so that others might live? Are they people like Bernadette, George, Mary, Genesius, Joan, Salvadoran university professors...
