Please join author Ethne Clark and Hidcote Manor’s Head Gardener Glyn Jones as they share their knowledge, experience and insight into Hidcote Manor Gardens. Hidcote Manor Gardens is one of England's greatest landscape masterpieces—a jewel of early-20th-century garden design.

Yet Hidcote was created by an American expatriate, Major Lawrence Johnston, who in 1907 began work on a 10-acre garden, designed in the newly fashionable Arts & Crafts style. Johnston spent 41 years creating what was to become one of the western world’s most influential gardens, establishing the English country garden design style.

Now, more than 100 years after its creation, Hidcote has undergone a major facelift and a conservation program by The National Trust, ensuring its survival for the foreseeable future. This talk celebrates the continuing influence of Hidcote Manor Garden and reveals the historic impact made by an extraordinary American on the course of 20th-century English garden design.

A reception, book signing and sale of Ethne Clarke’s recently published book, Hidcote: The Making of a Garden will immediately follow the presentation.
