Riding Chaos - Drawings and Paintings by Leigh Toldi

The 1870 Art Center Gallery presents the recent explorations of Bay Area painter Leigh Toldi. The artist, a long time visual chronicler of the human experience, packs her canvases with swirling imagery that hovers somewhere between surrealism and abstraction. This exhibit portrays in color, line and imaginative form the complex sense of fear and excitement one feels in peering through an intricate and formidable "jungle of life"...

The 1870 Art Center Gallery presents the recent explorations of Bay Area painter Leigh Toldi. The artist, a long time visual chronicler of the human experience, packs her canvases with swirling imagery that hovers somewhere between surrealism and abstraction. This exhibit portrays in color, line and imaginative form the complex sense of fear and excitement one feels in peering through an intricate and formidable "jungle of life" towards the future beyond. In addition to paintings, Toldi has installed Wall of Chaos, a collection of minute drawings in ink. These often humorous visual musings change in meaning when seen from different perspective points. Throughout the exhibit there is room to discover and rediscover reality through extended viewing.
