  It is remarkable how well Theatreworks selects such gifted actors that can lift a play beyond its script as they do in this one. The pace and interactive dynamics move with an engaging charm that keeps us from tripping over the holes in the "plot". Staging and lighting beautiful and smoothly executed. Just one act of 90 minutes and 2 actors. Crossovers, jumps and switchbacks of actors going from contemporary pair into historic re-enactment of 1890's immigrants in a "live museum" presentation about colorful N.Y. lower East side. Their passionate high energy performance saves a somewhat tentative package with big relational synapses that we don't see developing. Late scenes felt forced, awkward and abrupt. Use of foul language adds nothing to plot but an "R" rating. Poverty seems omitted. Outstanding performers Kimiye Corwin and Matt Harrington make it well worth attending this mix of history, drama and romance. Collapse
