This dynamic new piano trio, comprising distinguished artists Marina Hoover (cello, formerly of the St. Lawrence String Quartet), Jasmine Lin (violin), and Patricia Tao (piano), share a common background as members of varied and versatile chamber ensembles. The ensemble is named to honor the sense of “communicating as one voice” that epitomizes highly skilled chamber-music collaboration. Their visit to Stanford coincides with the University’s annual “Music and the Brain” symposium, which explores the neuroscience of music, organized by the Stanford Institute for Creativity and the Arts. The centerpiece of the program is the U.S. premiere of Memory Slips by Jonathan Berger, Stanford composer/professor/music researcher. Exploring aspects of musical memory from personal and scientific perspectives, Memory Slips is featured on a program with works by composers whose lives and music intersected with issues of music and memory.
