Among the handful of artists who are up to the task of performing the complex, often monumental works of Karlheinz Stockhausen, is Nicholas Isherwood. A frequent presence at Stanford and long admired for his interpretation of both early and contemporary music, Isherwood has performed works by creative iconoclasts including Messiaen, Xenakis, Crumb, and Kagel, in prestigious venues worldwide including the Concertgebouw, Covent Garden, and Tanglewood.

Stockhausen’s Havona for bass and electronics, was written expressly for Isherwood just before the composer’s death, and premiered posthumously in 2009. The work, which is one section within a larger, multi-section composition, Klang (Die 24 Stunden des Tages), spurred Isherwood to build a program around Havona, by commissioning works for the same forces, bass and electronics, and created in collaboration with electronic music studios. This event takes place in the Campbell Recital Hall at the Braun Music Center.
